Edit Me Challenge - Week 9

This week's Edit Me Challenge picture is of Jonah, the son of new co-host Stephanie.  This picture is so fun, he is such a cutie pie.

The first thing I did to the image was to crop it.  I wanted to get closer to Jonah and eliminate some of the blanket from the bottom.

Next I adjusted with a curves adjustment to lighten and balance the image.

Then came my favorite mountain effect.  I love the color and liveliness it adds.

I decided to sharpen, brighten and ever-so-slightly enhance the color in Jonah's eyes.

Then I used the mountain effect again.  It added more oomph.

Finally I did an overall sharpen.  Done!

Here is the before:

    1. Thank you! When I first saw the photo I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to lighten it without washing it out, but the curves adjustment did the trick:)

    1. Thanks:) I use Corel Photo-Paint. It is a part of a drawing program my husband uses, so that is how I started using it. After much trial and error, I can pretty much get it to do what I want it to, but I'm always learning new things. Someday I'd like to learn Photoshop. They have amazing actions that can be applied to photos!

  4. This is awesome! Very close to how I would edit it myself but using a totally different technique! This is why I LOVE this challenge! Is the Mountain Effect a preset in Corel?

    1. I'm glad you like my edit! It'd be fun to see your edit and how your technique differs.

The Mountain effect is actually part of a free plug-in I found online and installed into Corel. The plug-in is called Virtual Photographer. It has a lot of different color and B&W presets and Mountain is one of my favorite color presets.
